How to Tie a Four-In-Hand Knot

Four-In-Hand Knot Tying Steps

  1. Start with the wide end of your necktie on the right (mirror image). It should extend about 20 cm below the narrow end.
  2. Wrap the wide end once around the narrow end.
  3. Pull the wide end up and through the loop around your neck.
  4. Hold the front of the knot loosely and bring the wide end down through the front loop.
  5. Tighten and slide the knot up.

About the Four-In-Hand Knot

The Four-In-Hand is similar to the Simple Knot and is widely considered to be one of the easiest tie knots to learn and master. The name Four-In-Hand comes from a famous coaching club in London, the ‘Four-In-Hand’, and the coachmen who helped make this knot a go-to for the masses.
