How to Tie an Onassis Knot

1. Begin with the wide end on your right.
2. Take the wide end over the narrow end.
3. Bring it around the narrow end from behind and to the right.
4. Take it across the narrow end to the left.
5. Take it up under the neck loop.
6. Bring the wide end down through the band made in Step 5.
7. Gently pull the wide end through.
8. Take the wide end behind the knot and over to hang in the front.
9. Pull down and adjust.

The Onassis Knot is named after Aristotle Onassis. He didn’t invent this way of wearing a tie, but he did help propel its popularity.

This knot resembles a scarf when finished as the actual knot is hidden under the wide part of the tie. It’s a great way to flaunt your favourite tie pin or tack and works best when you have a tie that you want to get noticed.
